Walt Munze

Walt Munze has been called the Johnny Appleseed of Lacrosse, spreading his enthusiasm for the sport throughout Central New York for the past 36 years as a player, coach, official, camp director and organizer.

His college lacrosse was played at Cortland State University where he lettered for three years and captained the 1960 team. From 1961 to 1974 he was an active player for the Syracuse Lacrosse Club.

Walt started the Lacrosse program at East Syracuse Minoa High School in 1961 and coached there until 1965. Next stop, CBA, where he began a Lacrosse program and coached in 1967 and 1968. He established the first Lacrosse camp in the country in 1967, the All-American Lacrosse Camp which has added a Girls Camp eight years ago.

As an official, Walt has devoted 31 years of his life to Lacrosse in scholastic and collegiate levels. He has officiated in three Division III, five Division 1 and three Club Championships and received the Frenchy Julian Award for officiating excellence in 1986, the same year he officiated the World Championship Games in Toronto, Canada. He is past-president of both the Central New York and the New York State Lacrosse Officials Association. He is currently assignor of officials for Section III and State Interpreter for scholastic Lacrosse.
