Paul Wehrum

Chances are, Paul Wehrum would have made it into our Hall of Fame some day even if he had not pursued a coaching career. As a student-athlete at Cortland, he captained and starred in both football and lacrosse, earning All-American honors as an attackman.

After earning his B.S. and M.E.D. Degree at Cortland, he played for the Long Island Athletic Club, national champions from 1974 to 1976.

His coaching career began as an assistant in football and lacrosse at his alma mater in 1973. After six years of scholastic coaching at Lynbrook, he moved to his present position as head lacrosse coach at Herkimer County Junior College. He has won Region III Championships eleven consecutive years, a NJCAA record. His teams have been National Champions five times, in 1988, 1989, 1992, 1993 and 1994. He has been named Coach of the Year four times and has produced more Academic All-Americans than any other community college. Five of his athletes have been selected as Player of the Year. His team is currently on a fifty-one game winning streak. Many of his student-athletes have gone on to excel on NCAA Division I, II and III levels.
