A Lacrosse Legacy of Excellence, Leadership, and Service
Early Years and High School Dominance
A 1982 graduate of West Genesee High School, Randy Powers emerged as one of the most accomplished players in program history. Under legendary head coach Mike Messere, he played on West Genesee’s first two New York State Championship teams, helping lead the Wildcats to a perfect 48–0 record.
Powers earned First Team All-County honors during both his junior and senior seasons and led the county in scoring. His speed, vision, and scoring ability established him as one of the premier offensive players in the state, setting the foundation for a remarkable collegiate career.
Collegiate Stardom at Delaware State University

At Delaware State University, Powers elevated his game to the national stage. A prolific attackman, he ranked among the top offensive players in the country throughout his career. He earned Freshman Athlete of the Year honors and went on to achieve Division I USILA All-American recognition in three consecutive seasons (1984, 1985, and 1986).
Powers recorded 241 career points, setting Delaware’s all-time scoring record. He earned All–East Coast Conference (ECC) honors in each of his final three seasons and remains the only two-time ECC Player of the Year in school history. Under head coach Bob Shillinglaw, Powers helped lead the Blue Hens to three straight league championships and capped his collegiate career with a selection to the prestigious North–South All-Star Game in 1986.
National and Professional Competition
In 1986, Powers represented the United States as a member of the USA National Team, coached by Dave Urick. He played a key role in the team’s World Championship Gold Medal victory in Toronto, Canada, achieving one of the highest honors in international lacrosse.
Following college, Powers continued competing at the highest levels, playing professionally in the inaugural Pro Field Lacrosse League with the Syracuse Spirit. His competitive drive and love for the game extended well beyond his playing days.
Leadership, Coaching, and Community Impact
Powers has remained deeply connected to lacrosse through leadership and service. He served as a past president of the Upstate Lacrosse Foundation and continues to impact the next generation as an active youth coach in Skaneateles. He also coaches with the Orange Crush Lacrosse Club, where he emphasizes skill development, discipline, and sportsmanship.
His influence extends beyond wins and championships — Powers is widely respected for mentoring young athletes and strengthening lacrosse communities throughout Central New York.
Professional Career and Family Life
Outside of lacrosse, Powers has built a successful 30-year career in the financial services industry. He currently serves as Senior Vice President of Investments and Branch Manager for Stifel Nicolaus and Company Inc. in Skaneateles, New York.
Randy resides in Skaneateles with his wife, Shelia, and their three children: Megan (University of Delaware 17), Hannah (Loyola University Maryland 19), and Brandan (Skaneateles High School 21). Together, they remain active members of the community that has shaped so much of his personal and professional journey.
Randy Powers’ story is one of sustained excellence, leadership, and service — a testament to the lasting impact of dedication both on and off the field.
