Kevin Martin

Kevin G. Martin is a graduate of Cortland High School. He played golf and basketball at Cortland and was an attackman on the lacrosse team, where he was the most valuable player and a first-team all-league selection in his junior and senior years. Cortland won the Southern Tier Athletic Conference in both of those years, and Kevin set the scoring record at Cortland. His assist total stood as the school record for many years.

Kevin was captain of Hobart’s NCAA national championship team in 1982 and capped his college career by being selected as the Outstanding Player of the Year in Division III.

He played college lacrosse at Hobart College. At Hobart, he switched to defense, but despite his misgivings, the position switch worked out. He was named a USILA first-team All-American defenseman in 1981 and 1982 and selected as the William C. Stiles Memorial Outstanding Defenseman in 1981 and 1982. Kevin was captain of Hobart’s NCAA national championship team in 1982 and capped his college career by being selected as the Outstanding Player of the Year in Division III. He will get inducted into the Hobart College Athletic Hall of Fame in Spring 2023. He was selected as the Hero’s Inc. outstanding defenseman for NCAA Divisions II and III in 1982 and played in the 1982 North-South game.

Following graduation, Kevin coached lacrosse in England, where he was a player-coach in Stockport, Cheshire, and his team finished second in the top English division. He returned as an assistant coach at Hobart in 1984 when Hobart won its fifth consecutive Division III national championship. He then attended Syracuse University College of Law, where he was a magna cum laude graduate, and continued to play club lacrosse for one of the early professional field teams, the Syracuse Spirit. Kevin also played defense for the first Haudenosaunee teams and was an active member of the Iroquois Nationals from 1983 through 1988.

Kevin resides in Clinton, New York, with his wife, Heather. They have six children and three dogs. He is a founder of the Clinton (NY) Lacrosse Club, Inc., where he coached for many years. He is a founder of the Elder Statesmen Lacrosse Club and a long-time member of the Sailin’ Shoe Lacrosse Club and continues to play age group lacrosse whenever he can.
