Jim Pistello

From 1982 to 2005, Jamesville-Dewitt lacrosse achieved a level of sustained excellence rarely seen in high school athletics. Under the leadership of Coach Jim Pistello, the team compiled an astounding 373 wins against 142 losses, capturing 14 League Titles, 8 Sectional Titles, multiple trips to the State Finals, and the coveted State Championship in 1986.

A Legacy of Excellence in Lacrosse

While great coaches often defer credit to their players, the athletes who played under Pistello consistently point to his vision, leadership, and dedication as the driving force behind their success. He cultivated not just skilled players, but players who loved the game and carried that passion forward, regardless of the scoreboard. Many of his former athletes went on to compete at top Division I, II, and III programs, with several joining Syracuse University National Championship teams.

Pistello’s influence extended beyond the field. Recognized as Section III Coach of the Year in 2005 and serving as League Chairman for 18 years, he exemplified leadership both on and off the field. He brought innovation to the Jamesville-Dewitt technology department, demonstrating a keen understanding of numbers and organization.

Yet his legacy is measured not just in statistics, but in the lives he shaped. Every player who passed through the JD lacrosse program carries a piece of his mentorship, his philosophy, and his passion for excellence. Jim Pistello left a lasting impression on his players and a permanent legacy at Jamesville-Dewitt — a true Hall-of-Fame career that set a standard for generations to follow.
