Powell rose to national prominence at Syracuse University, where he established himself as one of the most dominant players in NCAA history. A four-time NCAA Division I All-American, he set the standard for excellence at the collegiate level and became a symbol of consistency, toughness, and competitive fire. His success carried seamlessly into the professional ranks, where he earned All-Star honors in both Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL).

At the professional level, Powell distinguished himself as one of the game’s premier talents. He was named MLL Most Valuable Player twice and served as a captain for Team USA, leading the national team to a World Championship in 2010. His leadership extended beyond statistics, as teammates and coaches alike recognized his ability to elevate those around him.

In 2005, Powell’s career took a pivotal turn when he joined the Portland LumberJax as a franchise player for the NLL expansion team. The move west proved transformative — not just for Powell, but for the sport itself. That same year, he became the first endorsed Nike lacrosse athlete, a landmark moment that signaled lacrosse’s growing national visibility. Also in 2005, Powell founded Rhino Lacrosse, an instructional company that would become a driving force behind the westward expansion of the game.

Through Rhino Lacrosse, Powell built more than camps and clinics — he built infrastructure. Rhino’s camps, select teams, leagues, and coaching education programs became a catalyst for lacrosse growth across non-traditional regions. Under Powell’s leadership, Rhino expanded into full operations in Oregon, Montana, and Central New York, while hosting camps in Arizona, Wyoming, Maine, Montana, Oregon, New York, Idaho, and Washington.

Powell’s vision extended into event creation as well. He founded premier tournaments, including the Oregon Lacrosse Classic and the Saratoga Lacrosse Shootout, providing competitive platforms that further strengthened the lacrosse ecosystem at the youth and high school levels.

In 2015, after nearly two years of research and development, Powell added another chapter to his legacy with the launch of Powell Lacrosse Sticks, his own equipment company. Powell Lacrosse Sticks offers a full line of products designed by players, for players, reinforcing his lifelong commitment to advancing the game at every level.

Ryan Powell’s career reflects what the Hall of Fame represents: excellence on the field, innovation off it, and a lasting contribution to the sport’s future. His influence continues to shape lacrosse nationwide — not just through records and awards, but through opportunity, access, and the growth of the game itself.
