Kevin Sheehan
Kevin Sheehan
Kevin Sheehan stands as one of Baldwinsville’s most accomplished native athletes, a competitor whose dedication and talent carried him from local fields to the national stage. A gifted three-sport athlete in high school, Sheehan built a foundation of excellence that culminated in an extraordinary collegiate lacrosse career at Syracuse University.
From Baldwinsville Standout to Syracuse Lacrosse All-American
The son of Robert and Nancy Sheehan, Kevin grew up alongside his sister Mary and brothers Chris and Mike in Baldwinsville, where athletics played a central role in his life from an early age.
A Dominant High School Career
Sheehan graduated from C.W. Baker High School in 1982 after excelling in soccer, hockey, and lacrosse. During his senior year, he earned First Team All-County honors in all three sports, a rare achievement that underscored his versatility and competitive drive.
That same year, Baldwinsville honored him with the Class of ’39 Outstanding Athlete Award, while the Syracuse Pastime Athletic Club named him Athlete of the Year. His impact on the lacrosse field was undeniable — Sheehan earned High School All-American honors in both his junior and senior seasons, establishing himself as one of the premier players in the country.
Syracuse University and National Recognition
At Syracuse University, Kevin Sheehan elevated his game even further. As a defenseman for the Orangemen, he earned All-American honors three times, receiving Third Team recognition as a sophomore and First Team honors in both his junior and senior seasons.
Sheehan played in four NCAA Final Four appearances, including three NCAA Championship games. As a freshman in 1983, he helped make history as a member of Syracuse University’s first-ever NCAA Lacrosse Championship team, which defeated Johns Hopkins University 17–16 at Rutgers University to claim the national title.
His leadership matched his talent. Sheehan served as team captain during both his junior and senior years, earning the respect of teammates and coaches alike. As a senior, he capped his collegiate career with selection to the prestigious North-South All-Star Lacrosse Game.
In 2013, Syracuse University’s Varsity Club honored the 1983 Championship team with its highest recognition, the Lettermen of Distinction Award, further cementing the legacy of that historic squad.
Giving Back Through Coaching and Community
Following his playing career at Syracuse, Sheehan continued his involvement in athletics through coaching. He served as an assistant varsity hockey coach and as a freshman and junior varsity lacrosse coach in Baldwinsville, passing on his knowledge and love of the game to the next generation of student-athletes.
Family and Life Today
Kevin Sheehan and his wife, Karen continue to call Baldwinsville home. Together, they raised four children — Nicole, Matt, Erin, and Noah — while remaining connected to the community that shaped Kevin’s remarkable athletic journey.
Kevin Sheehan’s story reflects more than wins and accolades. It represents dedication, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to athletics, education, and community — values that continue to define his lasting impact on the Baldwinsville and Syracuse lacrosse communities.
