Dave Sammon was a teacher and coach at Vestal High School, where he initiated Vestal’s Lacrosse program in 1967. He coached more than 200 victories. Sammon presided as the Section IV Chairman from 1985 until his death in 1990. He was one of the three high school representatives that served on the United States Intercollegiate Association rules committee. In 1990 the Boys Summer League Box Lacrosse Program as renamed the Dave Sammon Box Lacrosse League.
